Anthony Robinson is a successful attorney who practices law in Houston, Texas and China, but his life has not always been so secure. In 1986 a young woman was sexually assaulted at the University of Houston, and despite his claim of actual innocence, Robinson was convicted of the crime. The former Army officer served ten years before being paroled in 1997. He then hired Houston attorney, Randy Schaffer, to represent him on his DNA claim.
After raising a considerable sum of money to secure DNA testing, Robinson was exonerated. The results of the test proved conclusively that Robinson was not the individual who committed the 1986 rape. They also led to Robinson receiving a full pardon from the Texas Governor in 2000.
Robinson went on to enroll in law school and to testify at the Texas Legislature about his struggle with wrongful conviction. He continues to speak out about his experience to this day and serves as a zealous advocate for criminal justice system reforms in the State of Texas. Robinson also serves as a member of the Texas Exoneree Council, a group of exonerated men in Texas who have come together to spread the word about the realities of wrongful conviction.
