Recently, the Innocence Project of Texas made headlines for research the organization conducted regarding the use of dog scent lineups in Texas. Our report revealed that these types of lineups have been used in potentially hundreds of cases and that they can produce unreliable results and wrongful arrests. On February 5th & 6th, 2009, a Travis County court heard the case of Timothy Cole, a man who died in prison serving time for a rape that DNA now proves he did not commit. On April 7, Cole officially became the first person posthumously exonerated by DNA evidence in Texas.

On Tuesday, April 29, 2008 the Innocence Project of Texas celebrated the release of James Lee Woodard, a Dallas County man whose conviction was called into question by DNA testing. Woodard was convicted of murder in 1981 and spent 27+ years incarcerated for the crime he has always maintained he did not commit.
