There are good people all over Texas who want to free the innocent. Some of us are lawyers and law students. Some of us are teachers and students from other disciplines. Some of us are just regular people who believe that our state can do better.

Getting an innocent person out of prison in this system is hard work. We read hundreds of letters from inmates every month and investigate dozens of cases each year. Nearly all of this work is done by volunteer lawyers and investigators throughout the state. The Innocence Project of Texas organizes, directs, and coordinates the efforts of these volunteers. We are a membership organization open to those willing to work hard for the wrongly convicted.

If you would like to become a member of the Innocence Project of Texas, you may apply as a supporter of the organization or you may apply to actively volunteer with the organization. Benefits of membership include:
  • Inclusion on I.P.O.T.’s mailing list for regular updates from the organization
  • Invitation to the organization’s Annual State Conference
  • Opportunities to attend I.P.O.T. sponsored lectures and other events
  • The ability to network with and work alongside some of the top criminal defense attorneys in the state of Texas
  • Access to an I.P.O.T. "Members Only" online forum for discussions of current issues facing the Texas criminal justice system
  • The warm and fuzzy feeling you get by knowing you are a part of an organization that diligently works on behalf of those wrongfully convicted of crimes in Texas
