Dallas County Commissioners Approve Funding for Conviction Integrity Unit
In a 3 to 1 vote, the Dallas County Commissioners agreed yesterday to approve funding for the District Attorney’s Conviction Integrity Unit for the next two years. The unit was created by Dallas D.A. Craig Watkins in 2007, and it has been working closely with the Innocence Project of Texas to review more than 400 cases in Dallas County where post-conviction DNA testing was previously denied. Through this partnership with the Dallas District Attorney’s Office, IPOT has already identified several cases that will require DNA testing, and there are hundreds of additional cases still awaiting our review.
